Arriving at a large campus with culture shock as an out-of-state student felt overwhelming at first, especially as a first-generation student whose main priority was academics. During my time here, I learned to combat challenges, seek resources or opportunities I never thought I’d ever have access to, and found friends I can refer to as my family. Everyone has a place, and I am proud to keep pursuing my aspirations of attempting to mark change for marginalized communities who may have systemic barriers or limited access to certain resources.
Your advice for other First-Gen students
Don’t limit yourself or be afraid to step out of your comfort zone; opportunities await you.
