Being a first-generation student during undergrad was honestly a little bit terrifying. But, the connections that I was able to make with other first-gen students, and especially my professors who were also once first-generation students, truly changed my whole experience. Now, being a first-gen graduate student as well, I feel ecstatic knowing that I’ve made my family proud, and I truly never take this opportunity for granted any day.
Your advice for other First-Gen students
Put yourself out there, and be proud to be first-gen! If I had never brought up in any of my classes that I was a first-gen student, I never would have made the many connections I have today. Find people who will build you up and make you feel confident in your choices. Being the first in your family to go to college is scary, but also something you should feel extremely proud of!
