Being a UMICH First-Gen is something I thought I would never say. My dream since high school was to attend a BIG 10 University but, my ACT scores did not exceed the expectation. Even during my undergrad years I still didn’t think I would get into the University of Michigan. Now I am here as a graduate student at one of the top universities for my program. I have faced many challenges but, I am still trailblazing through them and never left sight of my dreams. I plan to be the best and my acceptance here just gives me confidence that I am on my way!
Your advice for other First-Gen students
My advice for other First-Gen students would be never lose sight of your goals and don’t stop until you achieve them. Build community while you can, it will make the journey a lot more fun and easier! You are meant to be here, never doubt yourself or your abilities. You are a trailblazer.
