Campus Coordinating Council

The First-Generation Coordinating Council unites faculty, staff, administrators, and students in the collective effort to create a university where first-generation students have the resources, support, and experiences necessary to thrive. This Council serves as the guiding body for campus-wide first-generation student success, setting a shared vision and strategy for the university while advocating for systemic change in policies and practices. 

Community, Leadership, and Advocacy

Our Mission:

Purpose: 

  • To foster a campus-wide culture that supports first-generation college students in all aspects of university life, using a data-informed approach to coordinating efforts that address barriers impacting first-generation college students’ success 

Audience/Stakeholders: 

  • Faculty, staff, administrators, and students engaged in or wishing to enhance first-generation college support, including university leadership, program directors, faculty, and students 

Grounding Best Practices: 

  • Asset-based framing
  • Community-driven change
  • Accessibility and opportunity

Approach: 

  • Developing data-informed priorities, implementing policy recommendations, training faculty/staff, and providing student-centered programming 

Impact: 

  • To build a campus-wide network of people and resources that gives every first-generation college student what they need to develop their full potential as students, scholars, and future professionals
