It is such a prideful feeling to be a first generation student at the University of Michigan when my parents could only dream of going to their local college. As a first generation American and college student, I make sure to take advantage of every opportunity given to me to make up for years of sacrifice from myself and others. Although navigating a large university such as Michigan is daunting, my main motivator to succeed is to be a role model for my sister and future generations of first generation Latinas to show that it is possible for someone like me to take up space in our large world.
